Baby! Think It Over
Many teachers are using Baby! Think It Over with Career Choices in their life skills classes and/or as part of a pregnancy prevention program. Students are assigned an infant simulator for a given period of time. The infant simulator is anatomically correct, with a lifelike vinyl body measuring 21 inches in length and weighing between 6.5 and 7 pounds. Baby is equipped with a recording of a real infant crying, tamper resistant electronics, and different temperament settings.
Just like an infant, the simulator cries at random throughout the day-and night. The student must care for Baby by inserting a key into the back of the simulator. Crying will stop when the key is inserted, but must be held in place for at least a minute-or as long as 30-replicating the time needed to care for an infant. The key is worn on a tamperproof wristband, so only the assigned student can soothe Baby.
The electronics driving Baby are also tamperproof and record the quality of Baby's care. By reporting total simulation time, neglect, rough handling, and total minutes for crying, Baby allows teachers to monitor each student in the role of instant parent.
