Gifted Student/College Prep Programs
Gifted student programs most often emphasize intellectual achievement at the expense of the practical and emotional needs of individual class members. High achieving students more often than not make career choices based on external forces such as income and status and don't look at how the work meets their unique individual goals, values and talents. It is only later in life (at college, after they enter the workforce, or at mid-life) the incongruency of their choice catches up with them and they "drop out" either physically or emotionally.
For this population, Career Choices can be used alone or in a language arts or math program to help focus, challenge, and motivate gifted students as they develop the support systems and self knowledge they need to reach their fullest potential.
This is why Career Choices makes an excellent addition to the 8th, 9th or 10th grade English/language arts curriculum for all students.
