Get Focused...Stay Focused!® (GFSF) is a scalable, cost-efficient program that promotes high school graduation, post-secondary completion, and successful, skilled workforce entry.

Orcutt Charter High School Outperforms Other High Schools on Several College Success Indicators

A study tracking two cohorts of ninth grade students enrolled in the Orcutt Academy High School found students from Orcutt outperformed students from other high schools on several indicators of college success. The Orcutt Academy students were tracked through four years of high school and two years at Allan Hancock College, the nearby community college.

While at Allan Hancock, the Orcutt Academy students:

  • - earned more total credits and UC/CSU eligible transfer credits.
  • - were more likely to complete their English and Math transfer credits in the first year of enrollment.
  • - were more likely to persist into the second year of study.

Orcutt Academy High School is a charter school in the Orcutt Union School District, and all the Orcutt ninth grade students took one semester of the GFSF freshman course. They also took two semesters of a senior college success course that utilized some of the lessons from the GFSF 10th, 11th, and 12th grade modules.
